Plot Synopsis
Based upon the classic novel;
‘ROCKBOUND’, by FP Day

ACT ONE
At the opening of the show, Captain Angus Black has decided to retire from sailing around the world and to return to East Rock Island off the east coast of North America. At the same time, young William Campbell arrives on a salvaged dory from the nearby Skerry Islands, to claim his birthright on East Rock and to offer himself as sharesman to his great-uncle, Fergus. Although welcomed by Morag, Fergus’ sister, Will discovers he has to prove his worth to Fergus’ son, Eugene, who resents Will’s presence on the island. Will soon finds himself drawn to Eugene’s sister, Megan, whom he marries. The loss of Megan in childbirth leads him to vow to make a better life for his new son, Ben.
ACT TWO
Angus Black becomes keeper of Black Rock lighthouse. He and Will (old friends since Will’s early days on a fishing schooner), each find themselves attracted to Laura, the new school teacher on East Rock, as does Eugene, who courts her every day. Will is sent to fish the Grand Banks and is presumed drowned in a storm off Sable Island. Angus vows his love to Laura, but then becomes icebound on Black Rock Island. Fergus secretly engineers Laura’s marriage to his son, Eugene. Angus then vows his revenge on the Campbells. After Fergus and Eugene are drowned by Angus (who is also lost), Annie, who works in the fish house, declares her unrequited love for Angus. Will having been rescued at sea, returns unexpectedly and takes over the Black Rock Lighthouse. A year later, he and Laura are happily reunited.
